Hot Club of Philadelphia>

The Hot Club of Philadelphia will perform a rare, stripped down acoustic concert at The Living Room. It will feature bandleader Barry Wahrhaftig on guitar, Joseph Arnold on violin and Jim Stager on bass. The Hot Club of Philadelphia was started in 2001 by Wahrhaftig. The band has since become very popular, selling out theaters and other venues in the region. They are an acoustic ensemble, dedicated to playing "Gypsy Jazz." That term is used to describe the music pioneered by the legendary original Quintet of the Hot Club of France, which was led by guitarist Django Reinhardt and violinist Stephane Grappelli. Reinhardt and Grappelli were attempting to do their own version of American "Hot Jazz," as played by stars like Louis Armstrong and Duke Ellington. They used acoustic guitars, bass and violin, rather than horns and drums. Reinhardt and Grappelli added some French and gypsy flavor and created a blend of music that is quite popular and accessible. The Hot Club of Philadelphia mixes the original style of the Hot Club of France along with their own modern influences.

Matt Roach: The All Original Christmas Show 2018>

Buy Tickets

Come out and celebrate the holidays at The Living Room at 35 East. Acclaimed singer-songwriter Matt Roach will perform his 13th Annual All Original Christmas Show! Roach will be performing only original holiday songs. So, you won't hear the same stuff you hear year after year in every store. He will be joined by special guest Emily Loscalzo. Roach began as a quasi-comedian. When he was 15 years old he started the sketch comedy group Jim's Prom Picture Inc. He says: "It was like 'Saturday Night Live,' but funny!" Over the next 8 years the group played all over the Philadelphia area. During this time Matt began writing comedy songs to perform along with the sketches. After Jim's Prom Picture Inc. ended, he started to concentrate on writing music. He kept writing and now, 25 years and 500 songs later, he is still going strong. Roach doesn't play any cover songs. He says, "I never taught myself any (covers) because the original artist would perform the song much better than I ever could. So it's fast, slow, happy, sad, possibly demented music… but all original, all the time." Roach has performed hundreds of shows throughout the east coast. He has opened for noted touring artists including Marshall Crenshaw, Steve Forbert, Hamell on Trial, Steve Poltz, The Alarm and Peter Tork (the Monkees). He has released eight CDs, including a double holiday CD, "Matt Roach: Naughty & Nice." He has received radio airplay in the U.S. and Europe.

Kenn Kweder and Nik Everett>

On October 30th, Kenn Kweder debuted at The Living Room with his sold-out Kweder Not On Broadway (K.N.O.B.) show. This time around Kweder will continue his unique brand of music and madness with his long-time friend and fellow singer-songwriter Nik Everett. The two will share songs and stories about their lives in the crazy music business. Legendary Philadelphia singer-songwriter Kenn Kweder has been a folk/rock 'n roll institution in Philly since the early '70s, where his unique original songs, dynamic live performances and self-promotion savviness made him the king of South Street and the entire city. Kweder's original band caught the eye of, among others, Clive Davis of Arista Records. Although the coveted record deal never came, Kweder has spent his entire life as a performing musician, a feat that isn't easy. And he has done it on his own terms. After The Secret Kidds disbanded he has led bands with names including the Radio Church of God, the Men From K.W.E.D.E.R., the Men From P.O.V.I.C.H., the Men from W.A.W.A., the Employees, the Codependents, and the Enablers. His first release was in 1977 when he put out the 45 RPM single "Man on the Moon"/ "Suzy Said So." He has released several albums over the years including "Kwederology Volumes 1 and 2," a compilation of live and studio material from 1981 to 2002. "Adventures of a Secret Kidd: The Mass Hallucination of Kenn Kweder," a documentary and career retrospective, was released to critical acclaim in 2015.
